About

Southampton born Owen Hawes graduated with a first-class degree in Drama with Creative Writing from Kingston University in 2019. It was here that he wrote and produced his first pantomime which played to sold-out audiences. He was their first student to write and produce their own two-hour show while studying. The production helped support his dissertation, which argued the value of amateur pantomime over professional counterparts. Whilst there, he also trained in popular performance, including Commedia del'Arte and had a comic play performed at the Camden Fringe Festival.

In 2022, Owen graduated from the National Film and Television School with a diploma in Writing and Producing Comedy, having had his sitcom pilot screened at BFI Southbank, and a graduation ceremony held at ODEON Leicester Square. Though the course focused on screenplays, theatricality ran through his work as Owen became the first student on the course to brave writing the studio sitcom form. He was the youngest person to have ever been accepted on the course, and was one of very few who was given a place at the first time of applying. Further media work came through ‘Owen The Saints’, Owen’s blog about Southampton Football Club, that soon saw him creating video content for 90 Min Football, BBC South Today and the club itself.

Owen grew up performing with the Hedge End Performing Arts Company (PAC), appearing in their musicals, plays, cabarets and annual pantomimes. In February 2020, Owen’s first adult panto, Cinderella Undoes Her Buttons, was performed by the company. Due to its success, Hedge End Adult Pantos grew into its own subsidiary company that continues to raise thousands for PAC. Owen is now PAC’s in-house writer, and produces two pantomimes for them a year - a fundraising adult panto, and their full family pantomime (from 25-26). All scripts available to hire have been tried and tested by PAC to sell out crowds and positive reviews, and are stage ready for you to perform now!

I am delighted to launch Oh Yes It Is Pantos. Pantomime is the most important genre of theatre, not just for keeping amateur companies and professional theatres afloat, but for also introducing the next generation of theatre makers to the performing arts. Creating a magical, captivating, theatrical experience that leaves a lasting memory is vital to persuading young people to continue to ensure theatre thrives for years to come. If I inspire one person to get into or continue watching performing arts through my scripts, then I have achieved my aim. However, ultimately, I hope to help bring some joy and escapism to everyone involved, actors, creatives and audience alike.
